Temple University Japan Launches Bachelor of Science in AI for Fall 2026
Temple University's Japan campus introduces an AI degree program responding to surging demand from students and corporate employers across the Asia-Pacific region.
Temple University's Japan Campus (TUJ) will offer a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence beginning in fall 2026, responding to increasing demand from both students and corporate employers in Japan and across the Asia-Pacific region.
The program reflects Japan's growing urgency to develop domestic AI talent. The country has identified AI as a strategic priority — publishing a national AI robotics strategy and targeting a fivefold increase in chip sales by 2040 — but faces a significant talent gap that threatens to slow implementation.
TUJ's program offers an English-language AI education in Tokyo, positioning it to attract both Japanese students and international students seeking to enter Asia's AI workforce. The curriculum is expected to cover machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and AI ethics.
The launch comes as Japan's tech industry increasingly scouts for AI-capable graduates. Companies like Fujitsu, Sony, and SoftBank have expanded AI divisions significantly, while startups in the Tokyo ecosystem are competing fiercely for engineering talent.
