Shield AI Closes $1.5 Billion Series G at $12.7 Billion Valuation for Autonomous Defense
The autonomous defense company secures one of the largest venture rounds in defense history, adding a $500 million preferred equity stake from Blackstone.
Shield AI has closed a $1.5 billion Series G round at a $12.7 billion valuation, cementing its position as one of the most valuable private defense technology companies in the world. The round was led by Advent International and co-led by JPMorgan, with an additional $500 million in preferred equity from Blackstone bringing total fresh capital to $2 billion.
Strategic Acquisition
Alongside the fundraise, Shield AI announced it is acquiring Aechelon Technology, a specialist in tactical simulation environments. The acquisition strengthens Shield AI's ability to train autonomous systems in high-fidelity virtual environments before real-world deployment — a critical capability as the complexity and scale of autonomous military operations increase.
Aechelon's simulation platform will integrate with Shield AI's flagship Hivemind autonomous piloting system, which enables drones and other unmanned platforms to operate without GPS, communications, or remote human control. Hivemind is designed for contested environments where adversaries actively jam signals and deny connectivity.
From Navy SEAL to Defense CEO
Shield AI was founded by Brandon Tseng, a former Navy SEAL who saw firsthand the limitations of conventional military technology in complex operational environments. That experience informed the company's core product philosophy: autonomous systems that can make real-time decisions independently, without relying on vulnerable communication links.
Revenue and Customers
The company's commercial momentum is accelerating. Shield AI's revenue is on track to exceed $540 million in 2026, driven by expanding contracts with the U.S. military and a growing roster of international customers including Japan, India, and Armenia. The international diversification is notable — it positions Shield AI as a platform company rather than a single-customer defense contractor.
Defense Tech's Inflection Point
The Series G reflects a broader pattern of unprecedented capital flowing into autonomous defense. Government procurement budgets for unmanned systems have expanded sharply across the United States, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific, driven by lessons from recent conflicts that have demonstrated the operational value of AI-powered autonomous platforms.
Shield AI's $12.7 billion valuation now places it among the most valuable venture-backed companies globally, across any sector — a milestone that would have been unthinkable for a defense startup just five years ago.
